Story vs Science Nov 30

At the Jesus the Radical Pastor blog, John Frye has some interesting thoughts on the ‘conflict’ between story and science. It’s not anything that Wendy hasn’t been saying for a while, but it’s nice to see somebody else with similar thoughts.
I personally do notconsider the Bible to be a scientific or historical text. But that in no way detracts from it’s truth. After all, I don’t think that, when Jesus told a parable, he was recounting an actual event. He was using story to better illustrate his point, becasue story can work its way into a person’s psyche in a way that “facts” never can.

C.S. Lewis would oppose the "Narnia" movie? Nov 29

It’s been suggested here that C.S. Lewis would be upset that Narnia is being made into a live-action movie. I respectfully disagree.
When Lewis wrote the quoted letter, he had no concept of what would be possible using computer-generated imagery. Granted, I haven’t seen the film yet, but I don’t think it goes against the intent of Lewis’ letter, even if it does fly in the face of the “letter of the letter” if you will.

Bible in a year Nov 29

I’ve decided to start following a “Bible in a Year” blog/mailing list that will start up in January. Anyone care to join me?
I’ve done a Bible in a year program before, but it ended up being more like a race or a competition. Yes, I read it, but I didn’t study it or even think about what I was reading. I hope to do better with this one. I plan on posting comments here, and anyone else is welcome to do the same.

Pentagon Expanding Its Domestic Surveillance Activity Nov 28

An article in the Washington Post talks about the Pentagon looking to expand the “communication” between themselves and other agencies (FBI, CIA, etc). This really worries me.
I understand that sharing of information make their job easier. But where’s the accountability? I quite frankly don’t trust this sort of collaboration. The “Patriot” act was and is a huge mistake, and this is just one more step down the road to a totalitarian society.

BlogWatcher Nov 22

My curent “project” is a web-based RSS aggregator called BlogWatcher. It’s only real claim to fame is that makes an attempt to merge multiple feeds from a variety of sources into on single data stream, sorted by the posting date.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
